HiHey, I got to go play the National Anthem at a Silver Stars game. Got me out of basic training for the evening so I thought I'd take a minute to say hi. Write me! I like mail. Zeb's Address at Lackland Air Force BaseHey everyone.... I got Zeb's address today and thought I'd post it so anyone and everyone can write him. Zeb can receive letters and pictures, but not packages. I'm sure he would appreciate and welcome letters of encouragement. He made me promise to write him every day and even took me to the post office the day before he left to buy me two books of stamps. These first 8 weeks, Zeb won't be able to call home or email, so letters are the only means of communication with family and friends that he'll get. As an update on Bryson and I, we are doing okay. We miss Zeb soooo much, but know that he is doing something great and are really excited about this new adventure in our lives. We can't wait to see Zeb at his graduation in San Antonio on September 18th, which you are all invited to attend. Bryson and I both appreciate all the love and kindness that has been shown to us this week, and very much appreciate the phone calls, text messages, and smiles that have been sent our way. Denise
Zeb's address.... AB Petterborg, Zebariah D.
Going Away
Bryson started crying after my going away party as the last guests left. I asked what was wrong and he said, "I don't want the party to be over." Figuring he just wanted to play still, I asked why he was so upset. Through his sobs he explained, "It was a going away party and I don't want you to go away already!"
Off To BasicIn high school I researched several possible careers. I was dead set on being a pharmacist as early as junior high and up until I took chemistry in high school. My next idea was to become a pilot. I found the easiest way to do so was by joining the military. Unfortunately, my vision wasn’t good enough to take that route. But for some reason the idea of me joining the military kind of stuck with me. My senior year in high school I almost joined the National Guard – twice. I really wanted to but others scared me out of it. There were also other uncertainties that didn’t get cleared up and so I didn’t ever end up joining. After high school I moved to Phoenix for school and again looked into joining, but never got to it. Not joining is one of the biggest missed opportunities in my life. I have thought about it a lot over the last 10 years. After I got back from France I got a job that I liked where I earned enough that I didn’t want to leave and take the pay cut for military training. So it remained a missed opportunity. So with the end of downpayment assistance, and thus my income, my opportunity came. I started wondering if I could become a pilot again. Yeah right – my vision didn’t magically fix itself. But as I was looking around I found a job in the Air Force Reserve that I’ll really like. I’m going to be a flying medical technician in an aeromedical evacuation squadron. I leave for basic training on July 20. Yep – that’s in 10 days. |
